This is really interesting addition to the Langa subject:

http://www.rajfolkseries.com/activities03.html

<blockquote>The transmission of their musical knowledge to young generations has no fixed system of teaching, neither is it like the guru-sishya parampara because they are never taught. Their transmissions are like where the children inherit and involuntary learns the tradition noticing the elders.</blockquote>

Wow! Incredible. Makes lots of intuitive sense to me, as well as intellectual sense. A lot of brain hard drive space has to be taken up with remembering the various elements of the abstracted, non-sensory reading/writing code (not including the various psychological cultural stories acquired during the "learning to read" process, including tests, pressure, comparison, grading etc...). All of that space is now unavailable for remembering other kinds of material. I think it also takes up space used to take in sensory information. I bet the ability to read is also connected with decreasing sensory accuity.

I was expecting your last paragraph to say, "I'd recommend reading the article, but...then again, maybe not : )" Just kidding, I know it doesn't work quite like that.

Thanks for the post.

I found a summary of this story. I think the idea of "human incarnations of the demons who are the perpetual enemies of the Gods" has a frightening quality to it. I guess there's no way of knowing such a beast exists without meeting one.

Be on the lookout for "human incarnations of the demons who are the perpetual enemies of the Gods".

Has this story been written down in it's entirety in English? or recorded? I don't know sanscrit and I'm not in India and I doubt my capability to memorize that much text, however I'd like to read it as it has a decent premise.

The Lord of the Rings was influenced by an ancient epic as well, from Finland, The Kalevala. It's only 22,795 verses. I don't think anyone still sings that one though.

Amazing.
