“Don’t Make A Thief!”: Tribal Law and the ethic of Aikido
Aikido, a martial-art based on shinto (japanese animism) principles of peace and nature-based harmony, has always inspired me. The founder has an amazing history rooted in mythic cartography.
One of his students, later a well-known adept of Aikido, tells a story about how the founder, O-Sensei, resolved a conflict over thievery in his dojo (martial-arts training hall).
O-Sensei had more than his fair share of animist Royal Blood.

From the article : > We would do well as aikidoka to give serious thought to digesting O-Sensei’s words.

If I remember correctly I typed something about how sometimes ecstatics say something in a way that nobody ever thought of before, something with wit that hits - not from left field, from under the grass or behind a cloud or a completely different ballpark, something so astoundingly unexpected - and it short circuits the thought wiring and everyone resigns to accept it because the ecstatic person is revered and has them enthralled.
There’s nearly endless factors and angles that one could examine until they’re periwinkle in the face with that guy and his coat and it disappearing. One cannot do the Sherlock Holmes thing and eliminate all the impossiblities because anything could have happened and the reasons might go way back and have its origins in something that happened before the thief even entered the dojo.
If I were there rather than say “WHOAH DUDE YOU’RE ALL WISE” in a Theodore Logan voice I would have responded ‘Maybe’. Very respectfully, the royal treatment, according to the golden rule of do unto others.
That’s basically what I wrote. Except I was sorta sick in a sucky way so I probably typed more from my ache than the gut.
