Btw, since these books seem to be somewhat difficult to track down, I thought some of your readers might like this site, where the author presents his thoughts on the 15 properties mentioned in the books.

Ah ha! What happens if we both arrive at the reference desk at the same time with a request slip in hand? Tug o' war! :)

Just kidding. I will insist on you reading it first and wait patiently until you finish...

...while sharpening my knife. And staring.

I finally made it in to the library and read a few chapters of the book. I will be returning until I finish it. Immediately after reading it, I gave an orientation to new Chinese Medicine interns, and the concepts were perfect!

Hello Willem,
I found your post while exploring blogs that mention animism, and was struck by your thoughts about beauty. Just yesterday, out in the woods, I found myself again astounded and delighted by the power of the beauty displayed by living things. The depth of it, to the tiny crushed bits on the forest floor, and the heights of it, to the blue-grey storm clouds rolling in from the west. Beauty is a reflection of the spirit within. Aren't the most beautiful people the ones whose spirits are strong and healthy?
Best wishes,
Puny Human

Yes, I think all our paths cross somewhere - and this spot, this deeply beautiful restful place, may represent what we all have in common.

Thanks for the wonderful story! Haha. Brilliant man, indeed.

Hi Willem, I am so keen on your appreciation of Alexander's work. I've been deeply enamored with it ever since my friend's wife was working with him on the Nature of Order project. My friend who is incidentally an utterly amazing man in his own right, declared that after dinner with Christopher Alexander (and his collection of the world's finest examples of carpets) he had met the single most brilliant person he'd ever encountered. Anyway, it also is so interesting to me that your emerging expansive definition of rewilding accords so well with many of the most inspiring aspects of Islam. Your post brings to mind these two hadith, or sayings, of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam, "God is Beautiful and Loves Beauty," and "God loves to see His Blessings on His servants." I would add that while intensely book-oriented, Islam is actually an oral tradition. I also add that I have been to the Shanghai museum, which houses the premier collection of Shang artifacts, and it is true, I have viscerally felt the response that Alexander describes. It's the kind of thing one usually calls otherworldly, but, in fact it is so intensely, beautifully, richly, THIS-worldly!
